Mrs. Jill Henderson
Teacher of the Year
Elementary- Mrs. Lana Merz has been teaching Sixth grade for 30 years all of which has been at Canute Public Schools. She enjoys teaching her Sixth graders and challenging them to be their best. She states that every day is a new learning experience and a gift that should not be wasted! She is also the Academic coach for the Canute 5/6 Academic Teams.
Mrs. Merz attended high school at Canute, She went to Saint Gregory's College in Shawnee, and received her B.S. Degree in Education at SWOSU in Weatherford. She is the daughter of the late LeRoy and Loraine Kamphaus. She resides in Canute with her Kevin. They have two sons, Nathan and Kyle, two daughter in laws, Kaitlyn and Taylor, and one grandson, Liam. Mrs. Merz is the member of Saint Matthews Catholic Church, and is a member of the Canute Lion's Club.
High School- Mr. Dick Rennels is a graduate from Hammon High School and SWOSU. He spent his early work life in private business but was drawn into teaching at the age of forty-three. He feels that his teaching career has been a good fit for him, that working with students and faculty at Canute has been a great way to have spent the last thirty years. Mr. Rennels will be retiring at the end of this school term but he hopes to stay in touch with all the good folks of the Canute community.
Mr. Rennels and his wife, Linda, have been married for forty-nine years. They have two sons both of whom were Canute graduates. Aaron, the oldest lives in Seattle, WA. His brother, Corey, lives in Mustang with his wife Candice and their children: Riley and Annalee. In their retirement Dick and Linda will be dividing their time between Mustang and Washington State to spend time with family.
